CLAY MONDAY CLUB

Join the CLAY MONDAY CLUB which meets on Mondays from 6-9 PM with Bre & friends! This is an open hand-building class with very little structure and alot of freedom to play with clay. Minimum attendance is 2 classes (1 to handbuild, 1 to glaze) with the option to add additional sessions. Sessions MUST BE redeemed before May 20th, there is no option to roll remaining sessions over to the fall so please plan accordingly!

SIP & SKETCH: FIGURE DRAWING AT SPINSTER ABBOTT’S #2

Live model drawing session led by Lisa Masters! This time we will be meeting at Spinster Abbott’s, 18+. Bring your favorite drawing materials, surfaces and if you have it, an easel or drawing pad. We will have some extras available to share. Extended to 3 hours this go-around!

Price this time includes either one drink ticket (to be redeemed for a glass of wine or craft beer) or two drink tickets (to be used for non-alcoholic drink options or on domestic beers.) This ensures we meet our space rental fee, pay our models extra for the longer time frame AND raise money for our summer scholarships!

In this three day camp, students will learn the fundamentals of handbuilding with clay! By pinching, coil building, slab-rolling, and adding color using underglazes, young artists will create multiple ceramic projects, ranging from decorative pieces to functional dishware! This camp also incorporates drawing everyday, movement breaks, mindful moments and we play lots of fun games. No experience necessary! All items are ready for pick-up within 3 weeks.

STOP MOTION! Ages 8-10(ish)

Over three days at THE LAB (by Maritime Productions) with Guest Teacher Dan Florez, students will learn basic stop-motion techniques. Working as teams and individually, they will combine digital equipment & analog techniques to create stop motion short films. Students are all invited to show their films & attend as VIP guests to our cinematic premiere event July 26 where we will roll out the red carpet, fire up the popcorn machine, and hand out awards!

THEE INFINITE COLLAGE

Strange Rainbow currently exists as a collection of experimental workshops and online resources that encourage playfulness, imagination, and existential joy. “Thee Infinite Collage” is a free-form & collaborative workshop that is part live-improvised multi-media performance and part crafting session.

Participants have the option to jam together to create musical compositions using intuitive electronic instruments as well as the opportunity to generate live visuals. Attendees also have the opportunity to create more traditional collage elements to be used in future workshops as props, or to collage using elements made from previous workshops! This workshop should be entered with few expectations as exploration is at the core- we will be allowing the creative process to do its thing, goofin’ around til something profound happens!

GUEST CLASS: POLAROID LIFTS WITH ZACH S.

In this special guest class, local photographer Zach Sawyer will share tips and tricks to creating successful Polaroid Emulsion lifts on watercolor paper. Students will be able to take still life style shots, portraits, or shots around the studio to try their hand at the transfer process.

Supplies and set-up included for attendees to try 5 shots each! You are welcome to bring your own film and cameras, specs will be relayed via class email.

In this adults-only crossover class event, guests of the studio will customize their own perfect smoking set! Each attendee will custom glaze a pebble-style-pipe, slip cast by Miwak Junior, and bedazzle a pre-photo-appliquéd lighter from the Lusty ladies stash! Option at checkout to add on a "munchie-box" with sweet and savory delights from our neighbors, Songbird Pies & Bell's Baked Stuff. Both items will be finished for you (glazing & sealing) and ready for pick-up before 4/20!

CHEESE & CLAY CROSSOVER!

A first of its kind crossover at Make Space- CHEESE & CLAY! Sunday April 7th we will be hand-building ceramic snack boards (& more!) at the studio, with an “intermission” culinary lesson from our friends Bluebird Growers.

Attendees will learn the process behind making a labneh-style cheese. We will get to enjoy the freshly made “demo” products for a snack break, and finish up by adding color to our carved boards! Cheese boards will be slow dried and clear glazed, ready to pick up in 2-3 weeks. While some drinks & snacks will be provided, guests are encouraged to bring their favorites to class for inspiration!

YOGA FOR PALESTINE

Join us in a group discussion to begin grappling with the harm and non-stop violence we are bearing witness to in Palestine. We will explore the first of the yoga sutras, the Yama’s, which include ahimsa and satya, and are the principles for how to interact with the world around us and enact positive social change. Alongside our conversation, you can expect somatic movements and grounded breathwork followed by a gentle/moving yin practice.

SETTING THE TABLE: CLAY & NATURAL DYE CROSSOVER

This two week class is a crossover of handbuilding with Bre & natural dye with Kristin. In the first week, each student will be given enough clay to create a minimum of 4 napkin rings, with plenty remaining to free form and have fun with. In the second week, alongside glazing your work from week one, students will learn the Japanese folding technique of Shibori with Kristin, and dip dye 4 dinner napkins in indigo. Kristin will have additional items for sale if you wish to dye more. Ceramic work will be available for pickup within 2 weeks of the final class.

GUEST WORKSHOP: Embodied Earth

This two-part participatory, collaborative, & non-traditional clay workshop is led by CEAM's Artist-in-Residence & sponsored by Flagler College.

This workshop centers on the interplay between the body, clay, and place. On 2/3, participants will travel together to discover and collect local clay. Through a guided isolation process, they will extract clay for use in a body movement exercise and performance on 2/7. As participants interact with the clay, their own bodies, and others, the creation of ceramic vessels and body movements becomes a catalyst for conversations about the significance of the place, the materials used, and the connection between our bodies and the surrounding environment in the artwork's creation. Please note that this is a participatory, collaborative, and non-traditional clay workshop.

AGES 6-10: CRYSTALS & MOON PHASES

This three week workshop will incorporate both ceramics and screenprinting. In week one, students will create ceramic trays, ideal for charging crystals under the full moon but food safe and multi-use! They will also cut out clay moon phases from slabs. The second week, students will glaze their trays, moons and any other clay creations. They will also collaborate on a class moon chart design. The final week will be screenprinting the moon chart & assembling our moon phase wall hangings.

ALL THE SMALL CLAY THINGS (ADULT HANDBUILDING)

This is class is just what it sounds like- handbuilding ceramics, but all the small things. Suggestions are barrettes, bolo ties, wall hooks, beads, earrings, ring holders, the list goes on! Students will have the first week to create any clay shapes and forms to serve as their blank canvases for the second week. The second week we will spend glazing details on the once-fired pieces, and finish any final clay pieces. The third week is for any final glazing, assembling, and taking home work from week 1.

Handbuild & decorate special vessels & scoops out of clay with Bre in week 1. Fill them with Alanna’s soothing potions in week 2. This short and sweet workshop will provide you with enough items to share with loved ones, recipe cards to make more on your own, and some much needed time molding and shaping mud with intention.
