☞ Part-Time Community Studio Memberships Starting FALL 2024!

Make Space is excited to open its doors officially to a few new studio members starting Nov 1, 2024!

Our studio is relatively small, with a tight-knit group of existing members. We reserve the right to hand pick our new members based on the best fit. Please keep in mind that the majority of our current studio members started by taking classes, or as interns. If it is not the best fit *right* now, there are other ways to join us in making art together that could lead to a membership in the future!

We will reach to all applicants in order of submission and invite you to come tour the workshop and chat in person. Thank you for your interest in joining our special creative space!

Make Space is located at 39 Masters Drive, Unit 1 in St. Augustine, FL. We are not open to the public but feel free to drive by and check out the location! In person visits are by appointment.

→ Part-time community studio members will have access to the shared studio space 4 days a week for 4 hours a day, with the exception of some holidays. The exact days of the week and times of day for this program will be determined by our new members’ preferences. The cost of this membership is $200 per month. Please read the details of what that includes before applying below.

→ This is a CLAY BASED studio membership, the offerings and benefits of this membership are specifically for potters. While we love all types of expression and different mediums, the cost of this is reflective of ceramic related expenses. The space members create work in is communal and studio tools are shared. Unfortunately, this just doesn’t make sense for most other mediums as at this point.

→ This membership is for creatives who are ready to (& capable of) working independently on their clay craft. There will always be a studio assistant or member available to answer questions, help you find materials, and clarify how we do things around here, but the person “on duty” is not a technical teacher. This is not a class, though we are here to help and share ideas, we expect some base level of experience and confidence with the medium.

→ Memberships would begin as early as Nov. 1 with an up to 3-month commitment lasting through Jan. 31. Membership fee is due the 1st of each month, paid via cash, check, venmo, paypal or Apple Pay. Fees will be pro-rated for anyone joining before or after the 1st of the month.

→ Each member will receive a locker (30 inches wide, by 15 deep and 12 tall) with a key to store your personal materials in at the studio. Shared shelving is available for ceramic work in all stages (in progress, drying, bisque, glaze and finished work.)

→ Members must buy their own mid-range stoneware clay, either from Make Space at cost, or on their own. Make Space consistently offers 2 clay bodies, the ones used in our workshops: Elizabeth’s with Specks (light brown) and Sybil’s with specks (creamy white.) From time to time will offer additional clay bodies, when we have them on hand. For more options, our “local” clay dealers are Atlantic Pottery in Jax, Jacksonville Pottery Studio, or Laguna in Oviedo.

→ Membership includes all firing and use of studio glazes. We offer a rainbow of amaco velvet underglazes, a small selection of dipping (bucket) glazes and an ever evolving assortment of brush-on glazes. Members are welcome to bring in their own cone 5-6 glazes to keep in their lockers. There is currently no limit or unit of measurement for the amount of firing and use of glazes because the threshold is high. However, if a member’s workload becomes production quantity and filling entire kilns, additional fees may apply.

→ During studio hours, members are welcome to work on either of our XL 8 foot tables in the workshop, as well as on the table in the front office. We have four pottery wheels available for use, as well.

→ Additional clay tools/equipment for member use includes general clay tools, stamps, a 22 inch wide by 6 foot long Brent slab roller, handheld extruder, wedging table, slump molds, plaster bats for reclaim, ect……

→ Our space is ADA compliant and there is designated handicapped parking spot in our lot.

→ Make Space is not liable for any damage or loss of personal items left out at the studio. If it is valuable, we ask that members leave it at home or be sure to lock it up when you leave.

→ Make Space has a zero tolerance policy for any violence, hatred, or discrimination for any reason. We reserve the right to dismiss anyone from our workshop who does not treat others with respect and kindness.

PHEW! Thanks for making it this far! You did it….. Now to apply!
